DEPTH OF FIELD/APERTURE
These two photos are part of my food coloring photo set. I used several settings on the DSLR camera to create the depth of field and aperture shown. To create a shallow depth of field on the left photo where only the green bottle is in focus, I used a large aperture with an f-stop of about f4. The photo on the right is extremely similar to the other, with the only difference being what is in focus. This photo is more in focus where both the green and red bottles are in focus. I used a smaller aperture and a larger f-stop of about f32 to create the large depth of field. I changed what was in focus by adjusting the f-stops. I also placed the camera very close to the bottles to create a shallow depth of field in the left photo. I think the photo on the right is stronger because the contrast between the yellow (out of focus) and red and green bottles (in focus) is strong and creates a sense of depth.
This photo of a typewriter has a small aperture and large depth of field made possible by using a large f stop. All of the image is in focus.

This photo of the same typewriter has less in focus, meaning I used a large aperture and a small f stop. Most of the image is out of focus, creating a shallow depth of field.
